Introduction to traditional Chinese jewelry – Contrast with Western jewelry of the same period

Jewelry, now widely refers to the processing of precious metals, gems and other hairpins, earrings, necklaces, rings, bracelets and so on. Jewelry is generally used to decorate the human body, but also has the meaning of showing social status, wealth and identity. With the development and improvement of modern technology, it is actually difficult for us to define the concept of jewelry itself, but we can be sure that from the history of jewelry we can peek into the aesthetic of an era, and even the historical and economic development level of that era. Take jewelry as a starting point to explore the entire culture.

This salon will take the jewelry of China’s Ming and Qing dynasties as an example to make a brief introduction to Chinese jewelry. At the same time, we will introduce the western jewelry of the same period for a simple comparison. We will understand the characteristics of jewelry in the Ming and Qing dynasties through the exhibits in major Chinese museums, and finally make a comparison between China and the West, so that everyone can have a preliminary understanding and interest in traditional Chinese jewelry and aesthetics.
